Our history
Choi's Supermarket started as a small grocery shop. Sir Yuk Kau Choi established the shop in 1982. This little grocery shop at the Johannes Mungrastraat 11 was build on a property not bigger than 300 m2, but soon there was a need for expansion. A new shop was build on number 17 and grew to the current size and shape.
Family
Choi’s is still a family business. Father Choi and his wife and children worked hard in the shop with only one employee. In 1996 the new shop opened and the management changed. Sir Yuk Kau Choi transfered his company and his fifteen employees to his son Rudy. You could find Rudy as a little boy in the shop to help his parents out. From that day on, Rudy and his wife were at the head of the company. They build the brand name 'Choi’s' with knowledge, dreams and new ideas.
First Supermarket
Choi’s Supermarket has been the supermarket with the most complete assortment ever since the start.
The shop was the first supermarket in Suriname with European and American brands. Choi’s stands for sublime quality products and service. The reason why they keep their high quality is because of the long experience of purchasing. The customer has a wide choice in local products and import goods. From fresh bread up to exclusive meats, Choi’s Supermarket keeps innovating.
Quality and service
The enthusiasm of Rudy Choi and his two main principles, quality and service, are key-words in Choi’s success. These principles are highly valued and made grocery shopping at Choi's a real pleasure.
